Two programs, SHINE (Serving the Health
Insurance Needs of the Elderly) and Sunshine for
Seniors programs, provide trained volunteers to
discuss health care related concerns and help
seniors access appropriate means of support. You

The Medicare Part D Prescription Drug benefit
helps people with Medicare pay for prescription
drugs and is provided through Medicare approved
private health plans. For more information call the

Individuals with low incomes may qualify for the
Supplemental Security Income program. This
program provides additional monthly income and
may qualifies participants for Medicaid. To see if
you qualify, contact the Social Security
Administration. You can phone them toll-free at

The State of Florida has a newly redesigned health
care website, sponsored by the Agency for Health
Care Administration (AHCA) which provides
information concerning prescription drugs medical
providers. It also offers an outstanding brochure,
"Understanding Prescription Drug Costs," which
describes money-saving options and discusses
the various programs available to reduce your
medication expenses. You may get a free copy of
the brochure by calling 1 (888) 419-3456.

Another website, www.MyFloridaRX.com,
compares the most recently reported prices on 100
commonly prescribed drugs. This site may help
you to find the pharmacies in your community that
sell particular drugs at a lower cost. The
information offered at this site is also available in
Spanish.

The Co-pay Relief Program, sponsored by the
Patient Advocate Foundation, provides assistance
for insured individuals who need help with paying
their drug co-payment. This includes persons
enrolled in the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug
Plan as well as younger individuals. Participants
must financially and medically qualify. You may

The Florida Discount Drug Card Program,
sponsored by The State of Florida, can also help
people save money on prescription drugs. The
program is for:
" Persons age 60 and older and without
prescription drug coverage or who fall into the
Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage gap; OR
" Persons under age 60, without prescription drug
coverage, and with an annual family income of less
than 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.
This program offers a discount on nearly all
prescription medications and can be used at any
pharmacy. To learn more go to

There are two other widely used websites that offer
information and prescription payment assistance.
The first is www.HelpingPatients.org, sponsored
by the Pharmaceutical Research and
Manufacturers of America. You may reach them at
1-(888) 477-2669. The second site,
www.NeedyMeds.com, is a nonprofit 501(c)3
organization which assists qualified individuals in
finding and applying for appropriate Prescription
Assistance Plans.
